Social Media Experiment

Posted by Anonymous on 5000 Points
Greetings Colleagues-
This question has to do specifically with utilizing this site, as a true Social Media for Marketing.

I am attempting to prove that although Social Media is not the Valhalla for Marketing, Social Media is Important as a component of an overall strategy.

This time, it's for me...or, specifically for my daughter.

Last year, she was selected to sing "The National Anthem" at the Houston, Texas Thanksgiving Day Parade.

When she was selected, I asked her if she was going to add anything to it, as we see many ridiculous attempts from those who are considered "stars". Her response was so intense, you would've thought that I did something unpatriotic. "Daddy...This is the song of our Country. This is NOT MY SONG. It was written at a time we were just building our Country. We were under a lot of stress, not knowing if we would succeed or fail. I am going to sing this song as it was written, because people deserve to hear our song as it was written."

Well.....OK, baby.

And, she did. The evidence is on YouTube at "Megan Montalbano"...along with a couple other songs, of which we are very proud.
1. I Have Confidence, from Sound of Music
2. Stars and Moon, from Songs For a New World

Her choir was also invited to sing on The USS Missouri, which they did a couple months ago, in Pearl Harbor. My wife said that she hugged the vets of the Missouri, and cried as she was telling them how proud she was of their bravery, as such young men. WOW! Blew me away.

A young patriot.

OK, here's the test for Social Media. Now that you know the story, I am requesting that as many of you go to her YouTube site, listen to the songs and comment on each of them.

My hope, as one listener stated is to get her selected for a major, televised sporting event such as Rose Bowl or Super Bowl or World Series Game One.

Although I am "dad", I am objective. This kid can really sing. I hope you feel the same about her songs.

Thank you in advance. After you have posted your comments, please come back to Marketing Profs and let me know you did. I am loading up the points for this one. When the everyone is finished, I will award the points to all who participated.

Thanks again.

    Hi Randall,

Done, and thank you for the mini-concert, that was impressive. I know you are a proud father. Megan has a bright future ahead of her and I hope this social media experiment helps.

She really is a naturally talented singer. I can see why you are proud of her and want to support her performing development.

    Done.

Carrie - it looks like her videos can be seen at:
    https://www.youtube.com/user/hollymontalbano

(Aside: Next time someone videos her singing Randall, get the audio feed from the amplification system (it'll be much sharper) and use a tripod (to steady the camera). It'll make her talents all the more impressive.)

Here is a direct to the National Anthem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpmx7B3djSw

Now for social media to really work, things need to get spread out, not just watched by the folks here. To help that, I reposted to my Facebook.

Good luck. Looking forward to the video when she sings at a major event.

    Randall,

Done. Wow, thems some powerful pipes!

Seriously though, it thrills me to see someone walk up to
a mic and belt out a song IN TUNE, ON KEY, and without a single wobble.

Oh, and posted on Facebook too as seen here: https://www.facebook.com/GaryBloomer.

Will you report results of your social media experiment so we can all learn how effective this was? What was your expectation, or target, going-in?

    Greetings,

I watched all the videos and was greatly impressed with her talent. She is a beautiful young woman with a great singing voice which with ongoing training can take her great places in life. I wish her all the success I am sure she deserves. I posted her video on my face book page.

    Kindest Regards.

The girls got talent -- Maybe American Idol or The Voice or one of the other singing shows could be her (or the choir's) next step!?

Agree with Jay H-R's "Aside" comments - but if that's not feasible I noticed that if she stood closer to the mike for both the Confidence song and the National Anthem, that could have considerably improved the ability to hear her overall - especially on the softer notes (and likely would have helped overcome the background noise as well).

Note: The National Anthem and Stars and Moon are not on the song menu on what appears to be her youtube channel from the link Jay posted, so I watched the National Anthem through Peter's link in the next response.

As for the social experimentation, it would seem a viral email and Facebook / similar sites would provide better promotional value and context than a professional / business-related site such as MProfs or Linked-in. It would be great if you could monitor the traction that different methodologies delivered.

Good luck- I'm sure whatever she takes on next, you'll be a proud poppa!

    Steve
