Business Names Ideas

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am starting a jewelry business ( handmade by me). they are made of wire, natural stones, sea glass beach , pearls.... abalone pieces..
I usually don't drill my stones or pieces of glass, they are wire wrapped, but sometimes I also use beads with holes and I can ad them to my wrapped stones
I don't want a name who will limit me to jewels only as I also make cards for Bday, Holidays, weddings, parties, babies....
Any ideas? My first name is Genevieve, but I don't feel like it's a good idea to incorporate it in my business name. Too long and difficult to pronounce

    1. Who is the target audience? Where? What do you know about what they buy and where? How/when do they purchase jewelry like yours now? What makes these folks tick? What do they like/dislike?

    2. It's a mistake to try to name the business with an eye toward selling other things because it guarantees that the name will be general, not specific. You need to have a focused, benefit-oriented name that is meaningful to your target audience. When you use a generic name like "Acme Products" your prospects don't have a clue what you do or why they should pay attention.

    3. The name should not be about what you want to sell. It should be about the benefit your target audience should expect. WHY should they buy whatever you're selling?

It's actually a good idea to incorporate you name in the business. I'm assuming you are the artist and you're just not selling someone else's stuff?
Your name then becomes synonymous with quality.

Mrgoodman: thank you for your answer. It made me think a lot! My jewels, are unique, and I intend not to make to of them identical. They may look alike, but they will always be different, different colors, different wire.. I live in California. I don't know yet what my customers can like, because I never sold any of my jewels. I just started to make them and I want to make a lot before starting selling them. When my friends see what I make they love them and say: you should sell them.

I thought that I could ask to some hotel, if they would like to sell my work in their gifts shops and this is why I thought that having a general name like : Blue moon design ( but it already exists) would not limit me to jewelry. I agree with you that people looking for jewelry may not know that Blue moon make jewels.
    Thanks for your help

    Monica,

Thank a lot for brainstorming to help me out! I like one or two names you found. My jewels are not all made with stones, but also with sea glass, sea shelves and pearl.
    Any other suggestions? Thanks!

    Michael,

I create the jewels I want to sell. Genevieve is a French name and some people have trouble to pronounce it and some people could think: wow..too difficult to pronounce, let find someone else.
I may be wrong, but it's how I feel.
On another hand, I create my jewels and should be able to sell them under my name..
Please, let me know what you think
    Thanks!

    Monica,
You have good ideas! I like Ocean and Earth design a lot! Thank you.
I thought about some names. what about:

    Bijoux for you
    Averse de bijoux (Jewel shower)
    Life is a jewel
    Bijoux made 4 you

Is the word jewel too pretentious as my work is made of stones, sea glass, abalone pieces? Doesn't jewels mean something of great value, like diamonds, emerald...

    Monica,

Too bad..Ocean and earth for a jewelry is already taken.

    G,

Hmmm...maybe you can reverse it then?

    Jewels of Ocean & Earth
    Jewels from Ocean & Earth
    Jewels by Ocean & Earth

Another idea would be to use other words from mother nature such as Fire & Light, Wind & Storm, Sunrise, Sunset, etc.

I believe it's okay to have a similar company name to that of another so long as you own the domain name to match AND you do a better job with web design and search engine optimization, etc.

    Best of luck,

    Monica
