Made In The Usa Or Made In America?

Posted by lstevens on 125 Points
We are looking at developing content about domestically made products. Which description is preferred:
"Made in the USA" or
"Made in America"
These are products that are produced in the United States in a merchandise category that is full of Asian imports. We have several vendors that manufacture domestically in several states. Would it be better to say "Made in Ohio" or "Made in Mississippi"?

Made in USA definitely distinguishes in what America the items are produced.

I also like Monmark's idea of Made in STATE-USA

These confirm my initial thoughts. We do work with producers in Canada and Mexico as well, so all three approaches might be used!

USA, as Monmark states, America can mean other countries. USA is stronger.

You can add a line, "Keeping America Working, Made in Ohio"

Just to confirm what others have stated, “Made in the USA” is the more commonly used form by manufacturers. From a dictionary, synonyms for “America” include; western hemisphere, new world, north america and south america. So in the case of Mexico and Canada, maybe use “Made in the Americas, Canada” and “Made in the Americas, Mexico”.

This question brings up another question “who is the brand manager for “Made in the USA”. From a google search, there are several private ventures out there providing various information and support for this branding.

At the governmental level there is the US Department of Commerce. Do they have a written marketing plan for the “Made in the USA” brand? A positioning statement relative to other counties? A creative brief with useful guidelines for manufacturers who want to promote the brand? If not, why not.

Best of luck with this project. I would also like to know what happens from here.
