Blog With A Lot Of Potential Needs Some Critique

Posted by Levon on 500 Points
They say a Blog is probably your best piece of Internet Real Estate. My friend took this advice and a few months ago launched a Blog focusing on breaking artists / musicians / bands from new emerging darker music genres such as Witch House, Darkwave, Dark Ambient, Goth and Electronic styles.

***Disclaimer***

The blog definitely has personality. A lot of profanity in the style of writing but for the most part centered on music and breaking relevant artists is at the heart of every entry in a humorous over the top attention getting tone.

After just a few months he is up to 500 uniques daily. I want him to to be at 2,000-3,000 uniques daily. With a goal of 10,000 Daily by end of the year.

Now what? He is addicted to getting more traffic. Would love some ideas here.

Would enjoy people's feedback on our forum. I am in the top 50 for helping others with their marketing questions. I am giving away the maximum of 500 points. I have helped others get rich on here. I know this for a fact....people are sitting on their very own Yachts thanks to me. Please help my friend take over the music blogosphere.

Your advice is greatly appreciated. The blog is called:

(Aside: Why the need for more-and-more traffic? How will your friend monetize the traffic?)

    - Improve the title tag to be more specific to the page.
    - Create a Facebook Fan page, and tie the site to it (postings on site get pushed to FB, allow people to like the site from the blog, etc.)
    - Right now the site looks like more of a list of tour dates and sample downloads. There is some commentary, but ensure each posting has a "voice" that people want to read (and share).
    - The home page doesn't clearly tell me who's being targeted.
    - The About page doesn't tell me who's writing the blog or why I should believe what they write. Tell me more.
    - What are visitors interested in (not sure? Use analytics and/or surveys)? Provide more of this information.

Your friend needs to identify himself, needs to connect with people via social media, and needs to look at offering more by way of curated content.

The "About" page needs work, the site needs a home page tag that's keyword optimized, and although the use of profanity might make the writer feel hip and edgy, it offers the reader nothing of value.

I hope this helps. Good luck and well done on getting to 500 views a day in just a few months.

@ Jay Hamilton-Roth - I agree some title tagging definitely needs to be in order. Monetize? I am sure when traffic gets to a considerable level then advertisers will find him. He has a FB page and the good thing about Wordpress is it automatically updates FB and Twitter with each new post.

So more commentary on each post? I thought the attention span of people these days is very low...so less commentary more rich content is the formula. I don't know...I am split after reading your suggestion. Will try some longer pieces to test market this idea and see what it does to daily traffic. Thanks for your good advice. Very thankful.

@ PhilGrisolia - Yes the name is rather obscure...but definitely memorable. It is in the style of the most popular music blogs who also have rather obscure names like:

    -Large Hearted Boy
    -Hipster Runoff
    -Gorilla vs Bear
    -Aquarium Drunkard
    -Gluttony is the New Black

Yes, a more detailed About section that zones in to what the blog is about is a good idea. Thanks for your good advice. Very thankful.

All of your ideas so far are rather helpful. I am thankful to still be a part of this. Thanks.
