The answer is "it depends", based on a number of things including:
    What product/service are you offering?
    To who?
What is the lifetime value of your customers?

What I can tell you right out of the gate is that the funnel you're using above is NOT the way to go.

can you provide more information? What kind of product or service are you providing? Where are you located? What are you selling? What is the approximate price range? Are you selling to businesses or consumers or to government? How unique is your product? Do you have very many competitors? Using people to sell or are you trying to do everything in an automated fashion? If you are using people, are they employees are they resellers or manufactures reps or integrators? How long is your sales cycle? How large is your target market? What are you expecting this tool or program to accomplish? What is your timeframe for results?

The more information you give us, the more targeted we can be with our responses.

Let's take this from the other end of the stick. There are lots of things you can do for free - as long as you put in a lot of effort.

Get clever: don't target the standard selling keywords. Work out what *need* your product fulfills. Then ask what question your customers are likely to ask when they need your product to satisfy them. If you can dig deeper, great.

Sort yourself a free website from Wordpress or suchlike - this will tackle all the questions you can come up with - each question gets a page (or ten if you are really imaginative). Get them ranking by blogging and getting traffic from backlinks. Facebook and Twitter are good for keeping people "in the loop" too. Forget likes, think traffic.

Set up an autoresponder - MailChimp is free up to 500 users, there are others. Set up some kind of offer and collect emails from those who are interested. This is key. You need to write good, informative and relevant email newsletters with max. 1 in 10 emails being an offer. 1 in 20 as an offer is even better. People are wary about spam these days.

Very few people buy on their first visit. What's more they won't trust you. An email series will let them decide, and if you aren't selling that often, they aren't going to unsubscribe because their inbox is stuffed with cheesy offers.

All this is possible. It will take time and it will take effort. Done carefully you will have a job. One person I know now has a turnover well in excess of 1 million and has a sensible stable income from his business. It isn't that much, it is enough, and a damned site better than nothing at all. It has taken him ten years.

You have been warned. To your success, Moriarty xx
