Phd Thesis

Hello,

I've been doing some reading to try and narrow down my topic idea for my PhD. I want to do it on environmental marketing / CSR because I think it is a hot topic at the moment and should only continue to grow. I am just trying to connect environmental aspects to something else, whether it be emerging markets, product development, consumer skepticism or even SMEs and MNEs.

Does anybody have any ideas as what might connect well with environmental areas in marketing that is new and fresh?

There's a world of difference between "environmental marketing" and CSR.
So rather than talk about generalities, focus on specifics. What type of companies are you interested in? Located where? What niche?

And more importantly still - what's your plans post-doc? What do you want to do with your degree? How will this thesis research help you get closer to these goals?

Academia probably. But I really don't know. I think by examining aspects of strategy and product development, it would prepare me to work as a consultant or in academia. I don't know if that's true though.

Environmental marketing would be the area I would really want. Green. Company wise, I would like to focus more on multi national companies, but I don't really have a specific industry. US or EU based. Would environmental products be its own niche?

I had two major ideas that ran through my head:

    1) Factors that lead to environmental NPD performance in emerging markets
    2) Marketing and Branding strategies to overcome consumer skepticism towards environmental innovations.
