Completion of projects on time, within budget, to specifications.

Sourcing the best prices and fulfillment for suppliers, labor, and design.

Thanks for your response Jay, however, I need Marketing KPIs not KPIs for a construction contractor.

Thanks Gary, however, again the KPIs offered are construction ones, which I already have got for the construction teams for the company I work for. I now need to come up with a list for myself, marketing KPIs and don't know where to begin.,

Take a look at your position description. It should include KPIs, whether they are so labeled or not.

If it doesn't have them you are in a great position to define the position yourself!

If you have no clear KPIs in your job description, then look at the objectives for the position to see if you can develop any KPIs from those.

If no clear job role objectives, take a look at the objectives in the corporate strategic plan and work back from that.

If there is no corporate strategic plan, don't worry about your KPIs, the organisation has bigger problems that need addressing first!

    All right:

    Sales goals for this week/month/quarter.

Numbers of new clients and projects needed week/month/quarter in order to attain your sales goals.

Value of new clients, per project, this week/month/quarter.

Number of new leads needed this week/month/quarter.

Number of new leads created this week/month/quarter.

Number of new leads followed up on this week/month/quarter.

Number of new appointments made, confirmed, and kept this week/month/quarter.

Number of new clients presented to this week/month/quarter.

Number of new clients signed up and deals closed week/month/quarter.

Numbers of new materials or techniques reviewed this week/month/quarter.

Potential expenses saved through new materials and techniques this week/month/quarter.

Number of referrals requested this week/month/quarter.

Number of referrals secured this week/month/quarter.

Number of labor hours saved and money saved by department.

    A further word of advice:

Don't be swayed by the notion you need to measure everything. You don't.

Pick on the "Strategic Few" measures that really define success in your role, and work with those.

    Hi All

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

There is no job description for my role as it is "a new thing the company is trying" and there are no real objectives that I can use as a basis for KPIs.

The corporate strategic plan, or business plan or marketing plan...doesn't exist.

Unfortunately, the company is now in a situation where they want to have clear job descriptions and KPIs, which puts a lot of pressure on me.

Gary, your suggestions for KPIs are very good, however, a lot of these are subject to many external and internal factors that are outside of my control and could potentially lead to me "falling short" of reaching objectives and KPIs, where I actually am not responsible. The construction market is quite volatile and there are times when there is not much work there, or the client does not want to deal with us because of a previous poor performance, which is something that company directors fail to take into account. Also, I am often asked to submit Expressions of Interests for projects where realistically we will never be shortlisted for, for a number of reasons, again not a reflection of my work.

So, how do I create a list of KPIs that won't result with me shooting myself in the leg

Given that your original question gave the skinniest amount of detail possible, I think the time and ideas I've invested thus far offer as many realistic, relevant, and achievable examples as I'm able to give you right now.
