Twitter

Hello,

Need some advice on how to build audience on twitter. I am working for a music jazz festival and this year is a first year of our festival so the twitter account is a new account. I would like to get ideas of how to build audience with valuable followers. I post info about our festival, try to interact with people but it goes very slow, I get about 5-10 followers per day. Is there any way to increase the number of valuable followers faster? Thanks

You could bribe them (a ticket giveaway, backstage access, free sponsorship, etc.).
You could work in-concert with your sponsors for social media boost.
Ultimately, you need to give them a strong reason to follow you.
And by the way, why specifically use Twitter as your platform? What makes it better than other options you have?

five to ten new folk per day is pretty good. So what else can you do to augment this? Facebook and your website can also be productive.

Could you have some activity on your radio where people can get involved and actively tweet responses to one another? That's usually a lot of fun. The other side is to have a party at your station and it's invite by tweet only!

First off I would have to agree with Moriarty 5 to 10 followers a day is a pretty high success rate, with that being said if you would like to continue that momentum I would stick with the basics. Find musicians and organizations in the area where the festival is going to be held and follow them, people are more motivated to support events in their area. Post content that your target audience will be interested in, there are only so many facts you can post about the festival itself before the information becomes redundant. If you want to leave a lasting impression on your followers you have to do something that requires your followers to engage you like a question or a competition that offers a reward.

Track down musicians who are likely to support your event. Connect with them. Share their content (RTs, links, music, etc.,.). Tell them honestly how much you admire what they do. Ask for their follow. Ask them what you can do to help them. Recommend them and their music to other people.

Do the same with other people of influence. Do the same with potential audience members.
Do NOT ask for followers, or RTs, and do NOT try to sell anyone one anything.

Post related content that your followers may find useful, helpful, or interesting. Comment on their blogs, comment on related blogs. Have original opinions and be helpful. Be warm, friendly, and passionate about the thing you do, AND about the things that other people do.

Make 90 percent of your posts ... and this is CRITICAL ... ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE ... *NOT* ... about YOU!

Rinse and repeat this every day, TWICE: first thing in the morning, and in the early evening.

Using this technique i've built up a following in an arts niche in just under 2 years of 3,500 followers, both individuals and major arts organizations (meaning: MoMA, The Louvre, The National Gallery in London, The Smithsonian, The Met, and many others).

Jay Hamilton-Roth I like your ideas. I already mentioned to the organizer about tickets give away but he didn't like the idea. Maybe I can convince him for the backstage access :)
Please explain what do you mean by the free sponsorship?

We have a website and I also use facebook as a social media platform and later I am planning to create instagram. We are still in a very early stage of the festival organization, still working on getting sponsors and confirming high profile artists so not so easy at the moment to create a buzz around.

    Thanks for your help.

Moriarty thank you for your replay. Do you mean our own radio station or local radio station? We have confirmed 4 radio stations that will help us to promote the festival. I think this year we will not be able to create our own radio station but the idea is very cool so I will keep in my mind for a next year :)

    thank you for your help
