Need A Fun And Catchy Name For An Internal Sales Competition

Posted by sophie.ladousse on 250 Points
Hi All,we recently deployed a new CRM in my region (salesforce.com for those who know it) and I'm designing a competition to drive it's adoption by our sales team. We'll be measuring their activities: how many opportunities they enter, how often and accurately they update the status of each opportunity, how active they are on Chatter (which is the internal "chat" system of sales force) It is not directly a sales contest per se, but beyond the CRM usage the objective is of course to drive more sales!
Any idea of short/fun/catchy name for this competition??

Thanks for the quick reply! Just one additional comment though: I don't necessarily want to include "CRM " in the name, as we don't use this word internally. We use SFDC (which is the shortcut for salesforce.com" so if you get inspired with this acronyme then great!

The name "Jedi" is a registered trademark that belongs to LucasArts/Disney, so that's off the table.

What's the name of your company? Who are "we"?

@Gary. For an internal short-term one-off fun competition I might not worry. And I don't see any problem with making the suggestion - we're not trying to do due diligence but stimulate grey matter and trigger thoughts and connections - surely the more ideas the better?

On trademarks it's also important to look at which category and which geography. While LucasArts are litigious, the word Jedi is not trademarked for every product category (clothes, books, games, software, lighting, but not business services as far as I can see). It's basic advice that people looking for a name should do an appropriate level of checking. Simple trademark checks can be done quickly (www.uspto.gov and for UK and Europe www.ipo.gov.uk), but for serious businesses that's when you'd start to employ a professional.

"Forth and Goal" if you like the idea of a football theme. leader boards and be made and people advance to a specific goal (number of activities.

"The Change an the Challenge" This uses the concept that Salesforce.com is a positive change (you should articulate the benefits) and the challenge is using it.

Just some ideas to lead you on the correct path.

one idea that comes to mind is the power play in hockey. You can emphasize teamwork by counting assists, you can build the idea that you now have the advantage, and it is playoff time in the NHL.

You simply call the program, "power play"

You could name it Cross Country Racing, each aspect of using sales force earns you point in the category, I.e. number of opportunities adds fuel to your car, usage of chatter is amount of rest/down time earned (when too tired to race your car), opportunities to upgrade tires/wheels, etc to improve performance. It would take a bit of setup and Excel macro to track but an idea.

thanks everyone for all your ideas and suggestion, some are easier to implement, and more realistic, but definitey great to hear all of your ideas. I still have to think through it and I'll keep all of your ideas in mind. thanks!

Are you looking to drive competition or cooperation? I assume cooperation, as you're trying to drive user acceptance, make sure your sales team are reminding each other to update that sort of thing.

Also what's the 'name' for? Will you just be casually referring to it round the office, or will you have posters etc made up? Have you already started encouraging your sales team to update it. Is there a timeframe for your competition? what about a prize or incentive? Top 5 users get lunch on the boss? Or something a lot more appealing. Again could their be several winners or are they competing for top spot?

Some very random (likely terrible) simple quick ideas from top of my head:
    - Have you had you daily Salesforce?
    - Let Salesforce remember it for you?
    - Do away with personal notepads! - update Salesforce
    - We can't read your mind! Updates Salesforce
    - When did they call again? Salesforce should know.
    - SFDC - Shouldn't Forget Dem Customers
    - SFDC - So File Dat Call
    - SFDC - Sales Force Daily Competition
    - SFDC - Sales, Forget Dated Contacts
    - My Salesforce is better than your Salesforce
    - And the Salesforce updating award goes to....
    - Salesforce, and force for sales
    - (stealing SW idea from above): The Salesforce is strong with this one.
    - Salesforce, a force for good-salesmen

    and I'll stop before I get silly(er)
