We Need A Great Name For New Mural Business

Posted by carriegillespie1975 on 25 Points
My name is Carrie. My friend, Lindsay and I are artists and are joining forces to create a mural business. We have a very unique style. We live in Alabama. We want a name that is very professional and catchy..something that isn't too "cutesy" but that will represent our Boho Chic gypsy style. We embrace our "Southern Living" style but want our name/logo to make a great, memorable impression and reflect who we are. We detest "cheesy", run of the mill cliche names. We are having a really hard time coming up with a name that pleases us. Any help would be much appreciated! We also specialize in faux finishes for walls and furniture. We are in our 30's and are established artists independently, but need the perfect name for our new business which will focus on murals. Thank you!

I'd stay away from "catchy" and just tell what you do. That in itself is unusual (and therefore "catchy") enough.

    Alabama Mural Art

    Expressive Mural Art

If you get too cute, you will need a tagline just to tell people what you do.

I agree that we want to avoid "cute", but names like "Alabama Mural Art" are quite common. We are looking for a name and it will be followed by Murals and Design. So the "Murals and Design" should explain what we do. Thank you for your suggestions😊

I should have added that our name will be followed with "Murals and Design". So the name itself doesn't have to necessarily reflect what we do, as that will be stated. We're artists and a name that will reflect our sense of style and that will be unique is important to us. We are free spirits but want the first impression to be very professional and creative

Your clients are unlikely to care that you are "free spirits". What they will care about is the result of your work. If you're creating murals to attract potential clients, that's one direction. If you paint beautiful store interiors, that's another direction. If faux finishes are your specialty, that's another direction. While you can likely do all of these things - your clients are looking for someone to specialize in a specific skill / benefit for their needs.

Obviously our clients will be concerned with the quality of our work. We have an impressive portfolio. Many artists in our area have impressive portfolios. We have created murals in businesses, homes etc. We aren't limiting our potential clients to one area of expertise. We are currently designing a brochure and business cards that will expand on the details of what we do. I'm quite sure that our clients won't care in the least that we are "free spirits", I was simply providing some info about our personalities that might help with name ideas. So far there have been two suggestions.

With all due respect, you are looking at naming the wrong way. The name shouldn't be about you or your personalities, or even what you do, as much as it is about the benefit your clients will expect from your services. The name needs to be a function of your positioning, not your personal "like" or "dislike."

If clients think murals are fine art, let them know that you are well-known and reputable artists. Etc.

And trying to shoot for a broader audience may be exactly the wrong strategy. You should define a market so tightly that you can capture 100% of it. Each person you need to reach with your advertising costs you money. Wouldn't it be nice if you could just pay to reach the people who are most likely to buy?

And don't over-think the name. It's important, but there may not be a "perfect" name. Get one that's good enough, and direct your marketing resources toward landing some customers.

Finally, just as you are professional artists, there are marketing professionals who are naming specialists. They can't and don't paint murals. Maybe you need to rely on them for naming instead of trying to do their job for them.

I'm not trying to do their job for them..which is exactly why I posted the question asking for suggestions! What drew my attention to this site to begin with was a post by a muralist from Washington DC..there were many great suggestions for a name for her business. Most of the suggestions were very clever. The comments were very polite and full of great suggestions which is why I posted the question to begin with. I have obviously chosen the wrong forum for suggestions.. I understand that the name doesn't have to be perfect. So, thank you all for your opinions and for sharing your slant on business, advertising and marketing, but really was just hoping for a few suggestions for a name.
