Business Book Summaries

Posted by kevin on 125 Points
I recently started a business book summaries site at https://100mustreads.com. We offer audio & pdf summaries of many of the top business books available. What would be a good place to start advertising/marketing the site? Our ad budget is very small, but we would like to find targeted places to advertise. Thanks!

I would think that a carefully planned Adwords campaign would be the best place to start. You only pay when someone clicks, and you can pick the keywords that make the most sense for you. You can also do some clever segmentation on your landing pages to maximize conversion AND see who is responding to your ads. Best of all, YOU control the budget every day, week or month.

Consider placing PPC ads on both Facebook and LinkedIn.

Question: How do the authors of the books get compensated?

sorry to be honest, but I think you have a real problem.

Why should I watch a long (but very artistic) video to understand the concept of "business book summaries" ?

If you are going to waste so much of my time trying to make such a simple point, why would I believe that your business summaries are valuable?

Maybe the video gets better towards the end, but I'm too busy to watch it. And I bet most of your target market is as well.

Here's an idea: create a 15 second or 30 second video. Don't waste my time. Demonstrate brevity.

I must say that I agree with telemoxie. The video is WAAAAY too long for the amount of information it contains. You may be too close to your product story. Your target audience doesn't need a 5+ minute video to get the idea. You should be able to communicate the benefit in less than a minute.

Separate thought: You might consider putting an image of a real human somewhere above the fold. The whiteboard technique is quite sterile, and it doesn't exactly invite a site visitor (and prospective customer) to identify with a happy, satisfied customer.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! Some helpful stuff.
Conversion is not as big a problem as traffic. We can definitely cut down a bit on the video, but even though it may be clear what "business book summaries" are, to properly market the product, the video does need to explain why what we do is useful and necessary.

As for the authors getting paid, they are getting free exposure- we have Amazon links to every book in our member area. Summarizing books and selling them is not breaking any laws, people do this all the time, and we only want to support the authors on our list.

    Thanks again!

If traffic is the problem then Adwords is worth testing right away. You can buy as many clicks as you want. Just be sure your ads clearly tell what you're offering and your landing pages match what the ads say.
