Independent School Enrollment Management Consultant

Posted by lwredell on 250 Points
I need to name my new consulting business for the field of admissions in independent school. It is tricky because I want to work with the schools, not with the families of students trying to gain admission to the school. I may also look to represent educational software vendors for enrollment management and financial aid.

My skills are in modernizing the admissions process, improving data analysis and reporting, and assessing office operations for admissions, re-enrollment, financial aid, and data analysis. Many admissions directors are nervous about changing outdated processes, but know they have to get on track. I hope to convey a feeling of partnership and camaraderie in helping get them revamp their processes.

I want the admissions directors and/or heads of schools to find me if they're looking for support for their admissions office or if they are having difficulty with enrollment.

I've considered dozens of ideas from as simple as Enrollment Management Consulting to including words like: Renovation, Modern, Quantum, Larithmics, Catalyst, Catapult, Innovation, Solutions, Services, Audit, Advantage, Mentor.

I would be grateful for your brainstorming ideas!

If many potential customers are nervous about change, I would hesitate to use any of those words you listed. Keep it calm and steady...something like your name and a simple explanatory tagline-

    [name]
    Educational Admissions and Enrollment Consulting

    Admissions Systems

    Rollcall Enrollment Management

Because you have a relatively small market, it's unlikely that your target audience would choose you based on a online search. It's much more likely that you'd want to find THEM - advertising in media that they read/watch or in direct (e)mail campaigns. A name alone probably won't be clear enough to stand on its own (you already pointed out the potential confusion). So, you'll need a tagline to clarify. The tagline is likely to be something like "For Better/Efficient Independent School Admissions". Then your name could be something like "Excelsior Consultants".

You make a good point - and I agree that a simple search won't make me magically appear. I am planning to run an interactive blog as well, with advice for admissions directors, so I do want a name that sticks, and emphasizes the idea that I can be hired for consulting. My hope is that once my audience finds my tips and advice useful, the step to being hired as a consultant is one they can take.

So, what's a simple, memorable, identifying name that can be in my url?

I'm thinking I'll be most useful to admissions directors who don't think they need to completely revamp their offices, but who know they might need a colleague to help them fine tune their processes, advise on new processes, and update systems to improve efficiency.

While colleges have BIG budgets for admissions, independent schools don't, so improving processes to maximize efficiency is key. I am an expert in transitioning to paperless office for admissions, and rewriting job descriptions to include a more personalized approach for applicants and their families.

Here's a one-off suggestion based on your initial comments:
    Modmissions, or Modern Admissions
The name works even when the technology changes; and "modern" is desirable rather than scary to schools. Both URLs (modmissions.como and modernadmissions.com) are available.
