Name For Growing Bookkeeping/accounting Business

Posted by crystalwambeke on 250 Points
Hello, I need help with a name for my new business. I am starting a bookkeeping business now and will grow it while in graduate school. I am earning my MPA/CPA and will add my accountant services once I graduate in two years. I would also eventually add other bookkeepers to my team. I am having trouble coming up with a name for my business that does not include my name, or the word 'bookkeeping' since my services will be expanding over time. I appreciate any help! Thank you, Crystal

Who is your primary target audience? Where?

Thank you for the questions! My target audience is small businesses in any industry. I would prefer to be a virtual service so my clients could be anywhere. I live in Western Washington State but I anticipate a move to North Carolina in the next year. Virtual clients would be the ideal customer. I apologize for omitting these crucial details, thanks again for asking! Crystal

You're likely going to have a naming problem, since you don't want to include "bookkeeping" in your name - and that's what you're offering. And if you're focused on virtual clients - you'll need to be specific of why someone would choose YOUR services.

That's very true. Perhaps I could use 'bookkeeping' in the title and simply add 'and accounting' after I graduate.

So now lets get to the core positioning issue: Why would someone in your target audience choose to do business with you instead of with a local firm, one that's more experienced, or one that is run/managed by a CPA? What unique and important benefit do you offer?

Without that unique reason for being this is likely to be a long and arduous journey without much of a payoff in the end.

Excellent questions! I have 7 years of private bookkeeping experience and 9 years of government accounting experience. I know the ins and outs of running an office from an office manager standpoint and can offer small businesses a cost effective alternative to employing a part or full time bookkeeper/office assistant.

I will offer all aspects of bookkeeping. This includes customer invoices, bank reconciliation, payroll, vendor and payment entry, and preparing tax information for the business accountant. I will also offer additional services of organizing and storing invoices and "catch-up" for those businesses who have fallen behind on their books. As a unique service, I will offer sales marketing flyer designs. I am very skilled at those as well!

Rather than paying a bookkeeper a steady rate each month, my services can be retained and provided based on the client's needs. I will use my own desk, computer, internet, and pay my own payroll taxes. Along with all of those benefits, all of their business information will be easily accessed online from anywhere. No worrying about a computer crash!

    [Your] Bookkeeper in the Cloud

It uses the word "bookkeeper," but I think you need to do that so people will know what you're offering. If you try to hide it, they'll never figure out what you do or why they need you.

That's a great idea, I like the tagline. Thank you for the suggestion! I agree I will have to incorporate 'bookkeeping'. Thanks again!
