Don't start by trying to brand yourself. Start by working in the field (perhaps as an intern) to gain the confidence you need to better understand all aspects of the field

Thanks for the response. I have been involved with planning social events for friends and relations out of passion. I intend to take it beyond this circle, how do i get to this guys.though i intend to keep working for free until i have something solid. i need the idea of what branding this biz means so i can plan.

Without having to go into a crazy full scale marketing plan, I would start by positioning yourself in the market. Write a brand positioning statement.

Ask yourself what makes your business different from all of the other event planning businesses out there. (This answer this is NOT going to be customer service because every company in every industry says that about themselves. That does not make you unique.)

Another question to ask yourself is what needs are being satisfied if a customer comes to you. You'll have to do detailed research on this.

I really appreciate these responses. am starting by volunteering and making anyone I work with feel a positive difference. this is expected to take between 7 months to 1 year. this period will cover the research and experience needed partime.do you think I will need a name now?

I think that you don't need to come up with a name too early in the process. Sometimes you get stuck behind the name and you will lose the mojo, the drive behind the original idea while pondering upon the different names. For example, I have an idea for a blog I want to open soon, but at one moment, I found myself trying to find a name that wasn't already taken as a website domain. Instead, I focused on collecting the material and writings, maybe the name will come naturally as I start working on the project. The point is that name doesn't have to be the first concern and sometimes you get the feel for the name during the actual planning process without having to specifically make time for thinking about it.
