New Omm Endeavour Needs A Great Name!

Posted by elayne on 125 Points
I am coming up blank.
I am starting a whole new side of my business that will deal with training small business owners in online marketing. We are putting together webinars, series, group coaching, Done-for-you, VIP and consulting days.
Our ideal client will be small business in the start-up/development years (0-5 years) who are struggling with that area of business.
I will be speaking at live events for small businesses, hosting webinars, podcasts etc. to promote and sell into our programs.
I want a name that depicts energy and passion for the subject while conveying that we will break down the complicated and ever-changing world of online marketing into easy to understand and implement concepts.
I'm new hear so I'm unsure if I've give enough or too much information. I'm sure looking forward to seeing how this works and what kind of genius I've become a part of!
Thanks if you can help out!

    Some good suggestions from Jay.

Let me suggest a few questions the answers to which would help us understand your needs better.

First, can you be more specific about your primary target audience? Where are they? Are they mostly entrepreneurs who don't understand marketing, or are they more likely marketing-savvy but not completely comfortable with online marketing options? Or are they simply too busy to deal with the implementation of online vehicles? What would they do if they didn't know you existed? (What will you displace?) Are they old folks who pre-date the internet? Or are they young folks who somehow never figured out how to use the internet?

Next, what is the unique and important BENEFIT that you promise clients (and expect to deliver)? "Training" isn't a benefit; it's a means to an end. How will people in your target audience be better off after they have paid you (from their meager personal savings) to let you work your magic?

And once we understand the positioning benefit, why should someone believe you can actually deliver on the promise? Have you started half-a-dozen successful internet businesses? Do you have famous/rich clients who will vouch for you? Is there some kind of guarantee? Or are you just a teacher who can track students through a lesson plan?

I recognize that these questions go well beyond naming your business. The reason the answers are important, though, is that you want the name to communicate -- or at least suggest -- the central reason a prospect should sit up and listen to what you have to say. And to come up with that name we need to know who your target audience is, what benefit they can realistically expect when they deal with you, and why they should believe you can deliver what you promise.

Primary target audience are small business owners (< 10 employees) in business 3 - 5 years who are overwhelmed by how much there is to know about online marketing. They know they need an online mktg strategy and they either aren't interested in doing it but don't know enough to feel confident hiring someone OR they are interested but they just don't know how to create and implement an effective strategy.
If they didn't know that I existed they would probably continue to hire the wrong people and get underwheming results OR they would be doing it themselves ineffectually. Our value proposition is to make online marketing understandable and less overwhelming. We porvide clear, step by step guides and practice suggestions that they can implement immediately for results. (if they only have meager personal saving they're not our ideal client. :) )

They will believe me because yes, I've started half-a-dozen successful internet businesses and I have famous/rich clients who will vouch for me. We will have a guarantee although I have completely worked out those details.

I thank you, sincerely, for taking the time to ask these questions. Being new to the forum, I was unsure how much to include and I didn't want to include so much that people didn't want to plow through everything.

Why haven't you placed your top three keyword phrases in your homepage title tag? As an OMM myself, this is the first thing I look for when qualifying a web services provider. And those top keyword phrases should be included in the "creative brief" that guides the naming process.

Your registered domain name is probably already indexed by Google should appear end of your title tag:

My question was about a new business name, not my exisiting OMM service provider business. But thanks for your suggestions.

It's hard to know exactly what/how much information to provide. The best questions often spark more questions, and the most valuable input often comes when there's an exchange of ideas between the asker and those who volunteer answers/thoughts.

Will your new business provide services in a specific location, or will it be strictly online? For example, if the seminars are available at a specific location (e.g., Metro Toronto, etc.), then it's probably a good idea to reference that somehow in the name or tagline. Same with consulting services.

i will be doing talks and/or workshops in locations anywhere in North America, but starting with my local area and beaching out. The goal of these will be to funnel people into online courses, coaching etc.
