How Do You Research An Interviewing Company?

Posted by lark.shirley.stevens on 25 Points
I need to prepare for an interview. I have been doing my best to research the company I will be interviewing at, primarily looking at their Internet activity, and all their social media posts. Any suggestions on what else to look at?

It depends on the industry/category and geography. Can you talk with customers? Competitors' sales reps? Retailers who sell their products? Suppliers? Agencies that serve them?

Look at their LinkedIn page, look at their status on Glassdoor.com, and set up Google Alerts. You might want to look through Google News.

Other places to look include industry trade sites or associations they may belong to. You'd also do well to look at the activity of their main people. Do NOT stalk these people, simply find out about their major accomplishments. You might want to look at WSJ.com, Forbes, and Bloomeberg. And let's not forget local chamber of commerce sites. These places are goldmines of information.

If you are on LinkedIn, I would search the company name there and see if any of your contacts work or used to work for them. Talk to those contacts to get what information you can.

If people who work there are 2nd contacts (so not your contacts), you could talk to the people you know to see if they have heard anything from their contact about the company. Or you could ask the people you know to connect you to their contact.

Read all of their press releases - likely listed on their web site. Also Google the word "news" and the company name.

If the company is public, look through their annual report.

Thank you for your feedback. I do have two contacts (who I count as allies) in upper management at the company.
