    Dear Titus,

My Dad ran his own construction company—many moons ago, in a land far away. Here is what I learned from watching him work hard for a long, long time.

    Focus on a local area.

Unless you live in the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway area (placing you within easy striking distance of Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota), your name probably doesn't need to work in other states. Won't most of your work be coming from people within a 35 mile radius of your current home base?
If so, WHERE are you based in Wisconsin?

And your business name? No one cares about it being "catchy" (how would you react if I asked you to make my roof more roofy?), they care about you being relevant to the result they're looking for.

If you plan on reaching other states, be aware that you'll be competing with lots of other service providers doing the same thing. Do you know how you will stand out form them? Do you know how you will make your company relevant to the people most likely to need you and that are most able to find you? Do you know where most people looking for your services will look for such services?

(HINT: Please don't tell me you'll advertise in the local press: you will be wasting your money).

Tell me where you are, how far you will travel to any given specific job, and then let's regroup.

    Thanks for all your thoughts.
I have my own commercial roofing company in Indiana as well and because the name isn't multiple state friendly I want to go with something different. Many of the names we have considered are already used or a form of it.
As far as advertising, direct mail, cold call, business networks like BNI, website. I have certainly learned a lot the last few years with advertising.
Service area 60 mi radius getting started but will absolutely travel as needed to meet the needs of my customers.

So, are you looking for a name + StateName that can be "reused", for example: "StateName Excellent Commercial Roofs"? It would seem that doing so means that your company name would need to be 4 words: the state, the word "commercial" (to ensure that you don't get lots of homeowner calls), the word "roofs", and the descriptor. That would make a mouthful of a name (and website URL). If you're looking for something that can be reused in other states, but not have the state's name referenced (which is a downside when people are searching for you online), then we can help as well.

(State name and commercial) are not important,

In that case, we need to know a lot more about your business. What makes you better/different from other commercial roofers in your regions? Do you have a specialty? Without knowing more, we have no idea what it is you're trying to convey in your name (other than "short" and "catchy" - which likely won't be as effective as you might hope).
