Creating A Revenue Sharing Program

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello Everyone,

I am signed up for Guru.com and received a message asking for if I could created an internet marketing plan with a revenue sharing program which is how I would get paid. I'm not 100% familiar with revenue sharing programs and do not think it would be worth my time or effort to create and implement the strategy and be paid this way. For you experienced marketers, would you do it? If so, how?

Without knowing more about it, this sounds like something I'd avoid. They are asking you to create a business for yourself, but they want the lion's share of the revenue. What do they bring to the party?

As a rule, I avoid consulting assignments where my income is solely dependent on how well the business does. That's not because I don't believe I can make a significant contribution to a business's success. It's because it puts my earning potential in the control of someone else. There are too many ways a person can impact success or failure. I'd rather depend on my own abilities, and not take a chance on others.

One exception that has worked out well for me: A long-term client agreed to pay me based on a percentage of sales for the year, with a guaranteed minimum and an advance retainer payment. Because I've been working with this client for years, I saw this as an attractive plan that motivates me to go the extra mile to boost sales. Fair for both of us ... and especially comfortable because of our longstanding relationship.

You would also be very trusting of a remote client to honestly report on how much to pay you for the benefit of your hard work.

Thank you both! I didn't think it was a good idea but wanted to make sure I wasn't passing up an opportunity.
