Sales Powerpoints Who Creates Them?

Posted by chritz on 125 Points
I have a two person marketing department myself (Director) and a Jr. Graphic Designer (recent college grad) who is also responsible for learning our Marketing Automation software. Under the Sales department we also have two sales support admins.

Who would you say is responsible for creating/editing PowerPoint presentations for Sales?

Knowing this is a Marketing forum so let me also add, we have several "canned" presentations which sometimes just need edits to address a certain audience.

My thoughts were:
Sales puts their thoughts/talking notes to a PPT
Sends it to Sales Admin who goes through and adds photos, pulls out key points, etc.
Sales Admin sends it to Marketing for approval.
Upon approval/edits....Sales Admin sends to sales for review, final edits??

Or should marketing have to own every PPT?

How's it work in your organization?

Marketing should have oversight on the design and branding of the presentation, perhaps even providing a predefined layout or PPT template. I have seen some sales teams who seem to think that making the logo huge, or blink, or even in some new non-standard neon color is a great idea. Your sales team may be different, but since the brand is your responsibility you probably want to stick your nose in there.

The slide content may vary by presentation, maybe you have some corporate background info that is standardized but the sales force is supposed to be there to present and negotiate so let them drive their persuasive content.

Just my opinion, approach may vary by situation.

    ~best of luck!

Whoever can write the best presentation, no matter which team they may be on.

I have often seen marketing writing presentations when that presentation is used by many sales people, and sales writing to when it is used for a specific customer. I have also seen sales writing all presentations.

Marketing would produce the PPT. Treat the Sales Team like your client in order to properly create what they need. Even though a sales guy would have the skills to create a decent PPT, that's not always going to be the case. I would always expect someone in marketing to create a proper PPT.

Marketing AND sales. It's vital both departments are talking to each other and LISTENING.
