Opt-in Page

Posted by Gina G. Scala on 125 Points
I inherited a hosting site for a website that does not have opt-in page capability. I was told if we could provide third-party HTML, they could do it. The thing is I have no idea where to begin looking for such a feature since I've never had such a limitation. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Just to clarify, you are managing a web site that resides on a hosting server that is not yours (a service somewhere).

You have some sort of form on that site and you are registering customers emails for futures communication.

That registration process needs an opt-in feature so you are not considered a spammer.

If this is all correct, you may consider using a third party service such as Constant Contact, mail Chimp, or My Emma to manage both your opt-ins and your email capmpaigns. For very affordable rates they not only provide opt-in capapbilities but a lot of very powerful tools so you can see the results of your efforts.

Alternatively, if you just need and opt-in feature you will need to set up an option tick box on your forms then set up a table on your server to capture and retain the user agreements. You will also need to set up a similar feature in your communications (link back to opt-out pg on your site) and database that allows users to opt-out. Don't forget to add an info link so you can explain to users what this all does in case they are puzzled.

    best of luck.

The various services that Jim Stiles mentions likely all have a way to generate code to place an opt-in box on your website. So figure out which service suits your needs, sign up, and then generate the code, and send to your web person to insert.
