Can You Generate A Good Title For A New Program?

Posted by lstephens73 on 250 Points
We are a charity developing a new program whose purpose is to educate older adults about different aspects of wellness/cancer risk reduction but, even more exciting, it will teach them about motivation: how to cultivate it, how to challenge unhelpful perspectives on lifestyle change, in short how to make a sustainable lifestyle change to reduce their risk of cancer or recurrence.

We're looking for a title that is empowering and immediately communicates the purpose of the program. Will you kindly share your creativity with me? Please?

Thanks.

Let's start with the underlying premise: that your target audience wants lifestyle change and/or greater motivation. There are plenty of things people acknowledge that could improve their lives, or reduce the risks of certain diseases, but they don't do anything about them. This is especially true when it comes to healthy eating, exercise and weight control.

I'm not so sure there is any program title that will change this.

Why don't you interview a dozen folks in your target audience about their attitudes toward lifestyle change, health, and motivation, and see what THEY have to say. Don't "lead the witness." Just ask your high-gain questions, listen carefully to what they say, and take detailed notes -- including the specific words they use.

After you have completed at least a dozen good interviews, review and analyze your notes. They will lead you to the best title for the program.

    Heeey Istephens73,

your desire to get the attention and interest of your Customers through choosing the right title for them is a wise decision on your part. Leaving you a few titles for your campaign will be the easiest part of responding to your request for me since I help my clients with these kind of solutions everyday.

But what will be so painful for most of us (because we're seasoned professionals and we love helping you)...is the fact that we do not know who your Customer is at all. What I mean is that we have no correspondence we can read from them that would give us greater insight into who they are…

We don't have any previous campaign that you have actually used to communicate to your Customers. Even your website or a competitors website would lay a stronger foundation for how you currently speak to your existing customers.

When you say "older adults"…how old do you mean?

When you say that you're "developing a new program" does that mean that:

you have never talked to this Customer before? or

this Customer is an existing Customer you already work with who is aware of your charity?

You see a little difference such as this could make a Huge difference in the overall out come of your campaign and the kind of words "you should or shouldn't use". You deserve to have a successful campaign and your answers to our questions will help us move you toward that.

Another important question that would help us better serve you would be…how long has your charity been around and are you creating a campaign for a local community who is familiar with the name of your charity? Or are you trying to communicate globally online to Customers that have never heard your name before?

If I knew the answers to these questions it would make a huge difference in the kind of creative ideas I could share for you. It could be the difference between a Winning Campaign or a Losing Campaign.

The title's I've left you below are like shooting in the Dark with a blindfold on. I cringed doing it…but you'll see better what I mean if you decide to answer the above questions because I will come back and modify these campaign titles below for you and add more sizzling titles to the list. So here we go.

Thanks for the help, everyone. As Marketing is not my main field, your comments and insights brought many considerations to light for me. We've found a great title through another means but I really appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.

Do we get to know what the title is and why you thought it was great?

It will help us do a better job for the next person. Wanna pay it forward?

Sure, we're going with Motivation for Life. I love it because you can think of it as motivation for life as in health/vibrancy or life as in duration, both of which reflect the goals of the program to support people in making sustainable major lifestyle changes to reduce their risk of cancer and other chronic illnesses. We plan to have the participants evaluate the name as part of the pilot project.

    Thanks again for your help!
