Brainstorming Tagline For Photography

Need some brainstorming help! I’m looking to rebrand my photography business.

A little bit about me and my business: I’m a friendly, sweet, happy person. My mission is to provide clients with natural photos filled with emotion and personality. My goal is for clients to print their portraits and display them around their homes (no more keeping DVD and digital files hidden in draws!)

Some tag line ideas I have come up with:

Personality in every frame.
laughter. life. love.
Pure emotions. Artistic notions.
beautiful. natural. art.
Filled with giggles, cuddles and smiles.

    What words or phrases do your clients use to describe your business? Why do they choose you? What region are you targeting? What's unique about your offering?

    Why are you rebranding? Is there a problem with the current brand image? Are you sure you've fixed the underlying problem? What's the name of the business now? (Do you want a similar name, or do you want to stay far away from it?)

    We need more information. Perhaps you can answer each of the questions Jay has asked.

    I plan to keep my name of Kristy Chapman Photography, but I'll need a tagline to set me apart from others. (Feel free to goggle me to see my website, but keep in mind that I will be updating my website to reflect my new model)


    Why re-branding? I'm taking the business more seriously. My previous model was just a shoot and burn model where you take pictures and the clients just buys the digital images. My new model will be a more Full Client Service model with In Person Sales (IPS). After a photo session, I will be meeting with the clients to show them their images (normally in their home) and sell them photo products (prints, canvases, photobooks etc). This also includes a consultation with them in their home to help them choose products that are right for them.

    This new model has more potential for bringing in higher sales.


    What words or phrases do your clients use to describe your business? My business is professional. I answer emails quickly, I do consultations with my clients to make sure they are 100% comfortable the day they show up for their session. I'm a pro with tantrum-ly toddlers and grumpy husbands. I'm patient and full of compliments to make my clients feel at ease.

    Why do they choose you? They choose me because of my skills. Also, my style of photography is natural and really captures their true emotions. Sure there will be some more formal images to give to grandma, but there will also be lots of giggles, cuddles and genuine emotion in the images.

    I'm young, hip and fun.

    What region are you targeting? My region is my town in Ottawa, Canada. My clientele will be young families (including maternity and newborn... but mostly families). They would be middle/high income or value photography enough to invest in it.

    What's unique about your offering? Great question. I hope that what is unique about me is that I go above and beyond. I'm with the client every step of the process. I will often throw in some "extras" for the clients (in the past this included candy treats, a little video of the session, bonus products etc).

    K. Those are definitely the direction I'm going.

    They seem a bit traditional. I'm trying to come across a bit more modern and hip (not sure if that helps...)

    I always thought that a tagline needed to to be catchy (ie. rhyme, alliteration, play on words etc). Am I wrong?

    Have you ever accidentally whacked a hornet nest before?

    "Providing" sounds too corporate. "Captured" doesn't sound quite right. The last one isn't bad except it doesn't say enough.

    How about-
    "Creating sweet memories"
    "Creating sweet memories for you"

    My response:
    In a word, yes -- you are wrong. A tagline needs to provide useful information that explains or expands upon the brand name. It can add an emotional benefit or help the target audience better understand how the brand can enrich their lives.

    "Catchy" is a sign that the company didn't think very clearly about its positioning or communication, or that it created a tagline without thinking about why it even wanted one. (Not every brand needs a tagline.) And very few brands ever measure the effectiveness of their taglines in a rigorous way so it's difficult to say if one tagline is better than another, or whether a tagline is better than no-tagline.

    What makes a tagline "catchy" is its relevance to the target audience. When people understand the compelling and unique benefit a brand offers, they become engaged, and the tagline they found relevant is "catchy." It has nothing to do with rhyme, alliteration, or a play on words.

    The best approach is to prepare a tight Creative Brief. That will force you to think through what you want and how you'll know when it shows up. More info on Creative Briefs at https://bit.ly/htnXoR
