How To Respond To Ad Sales Reps

Posted by lisaverrecchia on 125 Points
Any advice on how to respond to advertising sales reps if the situation is this: I would really like to advertise with them, but we don't have the budget for any advertising right now. I want to keep the opportunities open for the future (when I have a budget). But I am also cautious about telling them we have no budget because I don't want it to appear that we are struggling financially. I also don't want to say that they are not the right fit, because I want to keep the opportunity open for when we do have budget. thanks!

Nothing wrong with not having the budget. Even companies doing quite well have already allocated budgets so can't always add in more publications to advertise in. I would say that and that you would like to keep the options open, so they should feel free to contact you again in a year (or whatever).

On the other hand, you could tell them to get lost now and then when you are ready, they will still be more than happy to talk to you and work with you on placing an ad.
