Generally not a lot of money to be made promoting mid-level artists. Event promotion: Do you know anybody in the corporate world? Talk them in to letting you handle some small event and go from there. This is all a personal contact business, at least until you get big.

Start by understanding what makes you different from, and better than, others who do what you do. Articulate a clear benefit-oriented Positioning Statement. (No cheating. Actually write the Positioning Statement and make it the centerpiece of your marketing plan.)

Define exactly who your primary target audience is and what benefit promise you will make for them.

If this isn't easy right now, interview 10-12 people in your target audience and ask some high-gain questions. Ask smart questions and let them talk. Listen carefully and take detailed notes. Don't try to sell them anything. Just an information interview.

If you do this well, you'll know where the current problem lies after you collect, review and analyze all your notes.

If you had clients, would you have a proven way to help them? If so, share your results with case studies. If not, start by developing relationships to help the artists. It's easier to put out a call for specific "artist opportunities" rather than asking "Need Representation?"

You say you got in a few clients. But has that translated into money? Are these simply people who have signed with you, or are they putting money in your pocket?

If you have actually made some money, whatever you did to generate the money, do more of that.

I would also like to suggest that you go to your local business library and check out some books on marketing. I would suggest that you read a minimum of one marketing book per week at this point. As you start to get busier, continue to read one marketing book per month. And don't be afraid to branch out into other related areas, chasing dollars.

As your revenue and client base grows, ask your customers, "why did you decide to sign with me?". (Better yet, have a trusted third-party asked the question.) The clients who have selected you in a competitive field can give you a valuable perspective on how you compare with your competition, and this can help you craft and direct your future marketing. Good luck.

there is tough competition in this business. what I would do is invite media to a cocktail/ dinner event with some unique entertainment acts and exotic food. Make sure they get some gifts too along with a press kit. Hire a professional company to handle the social media for you. And yes.. need to knock many doors especially corporates..
    Good Luck!
