Name For Bookkeeping Company

Posted by kacy.burns on 50 Points
Hi Everyone! I'm starting a bookkeeping company focusing on private instructors (music, ballet, martial arts studios, etc) and event planners. I chose these niches because I have experience in both, and I don't want to be completely limited to one particular area in case one niche has economic issues in the future. I want a business name that would apply to both niches. The purpose of the business is to allow my creative clients to focus on their passion, so I considered "Jubilee Bookkeeping" or something similar that focuses on the joy of my clients' work. Does that name sound good or do you guys have any other ideas?

(Aside: I wouldn't suggest the word "Creative" next to "Bookkeeping" since that may connote less-than-honest services)

    Art & Bookkeeping
    Entrepreneurial Bookkeeping

Oh I definitely won't use creative alongside my business. I'm currently an accountant, so I know all about the problems with that word. But that's how my niche would describe themselves, so for the purpose of this question it is acceptable in context.

I'm not sure I'd call out the niche in your company name ... perhaps in a tagline. I suspect your target audience would respond to a reliable, careful, highly-professional bookkeeper/accountant more than to one with specific niche experience.

Most small businesses want a bookkeeper/accountant who will keep them out of trouble and seek every legitimate tax break available to them. Industry/niche experience is less important, as long as you are current with federal and state tax codes.

    Why not "Cityname Bookkeeping/Accounting?"

I have decided to niche because I want to become an expert in bookkeeping for specific industries. This means I will be able to make my work more automated and help my clients with their specific needs.
I know the business I want to have. I just want feedback on naming.

I am not suggesting that you change your focus or business strategy. I am suggesting that the selection criteria among your target audience for a bookkeeping service is more likely to be the knowledge, expertise and professionalism you exhibit than the fact that you understand their particular business segment.

I'd go with a city/county name or a name that communicates reliability or professionalism.

I agree that verticalizing your brand name poses a business risk since it will restrict your options in the future; the company name should be more enduring, and you can target specific industries through a tagline, copy, targeted marketing, etc. The moderator raises a good point about location-based company names, as location will probably be among the top criteria if you plan to serve local markets.

I actually plan to do virtual bookkeeping (as in having everything be cloud-based), which means I can have clients all over the US. I may start with ones who are in my area, but I don't want a location-based name so I can easily expand.
Is Jubilee Bookkeeping too restricted? I feel like it could really apply to just about any business whose owners started their business because of the passion they have for their work. That could be anything from my planned niche to photographers to bloggers, etc.
