Hootsuite Vs Facebook

Posted by meisenhart on 250 Points
Is it true posts made from my Hootsuie account to Facebook receive a lower ranking and ultimately a lower reach to my audience? I was told this happens because Facebook tried to purchase Hootsuite a few years ago and was denied the purchase.
In the past year, I have seen notice of Hootsuite partnering with Facebook to streamline Facebook ads.
What is the truth?
Thank you for your insight.

From an article titled "10 Practices to Avoid That Facebook Will Penalize Your Business Page For" from November 2013. I have no idea if it is still the case::

Using scheduling services such as Hootsuite, Viral Heat, or Sprout Social to schedule your Facebook posts will gain you only one thing: an even lower reach. That’s because Facebook recognizes, and penalizes these third-party apps, giving them less credibility than posts made directly on Facebook. This is true for businesses that push their Twitter feed through Facebook as well.

Note: Historically, Facebook has denied this correlation, however studies on Facebook reach as well as analyzing our own data has suggested there is a direct relationship between Facebook reach and use of third-party services.

This more-recent article, however, says the opposite:

    Heeey meisenhart,

this is definitely true of videos from youtube to Facebook. Native videos or videos within Facebook are ranked higher in the news feeds. And from my experience nothing pulls more attention than a video. Facebook honors and rewards more interaction from within it's platform...that is true of it's videos and equally true of it's advertising. If you are pulling people outside of the framework of Facebook's platform the value of the content will have a lower ranking in the news feed and therefore overall. I doubt if it originally had anything to do with the Hootsuite denial. Facebook has always given lower value to outside content within it's platform. This makes good sense since they are not in the business of promoting engagement outside of their platform...and this takes away from a great deal of potential revenue.

I've done more Facebook video social media than anyone I know of. I have over 265 video post on Facebook...plus a dozen more to Facebook from youtube. I've been a member of facebook since 2007

    Heeey meisenhart,

I read the article and according to Buffer they say that content being penalized is not true. So just recognize that I'm speaking from my own experiences as it pertains to videos...there's a noticeable difference in experience as it relates to video content. In terms of 3rd party facebook posting He's saying it isn't true. So...test your content yourself...and come to your own conclusions. There are many factors that could affect what happens...especially when content is involved...because the words we use does matter...and that content can be held back based on what you say. Facebook does have word triggers that will prevent some content from penetrating it's platform. So depending on what you're saying, and the ideas you're communicating in your content will also determine it's ranking on their platform. So overall what he's saying maybe true...but if I were you...I'd still do my own testing...based on my content and the words that are common to me. Hope that helps meisenhart.

Wishing you the best and KEEP SMILING!!!

Organic reach has been dropping everywhere and FB appears to be one of the leaders in this. Most business models are increasingly tending toward paid advertising. Organic reach is a shadow of what it was even a few years ago (not counting the few superstars...but even some of them have reportedly turned to paid reach).

The more real time posting you can do (using the FB scheduling tool), the better, in all probability.

Thank you for all your valuable input. My thought is to post as much as possible using FB's scheduling tool. I am so inclined to continue using Hootsuite for items such as holiday closing or similar posts that I can quickly schedule for all social media.
