Conversion Issue - Is This Product Page Confusing?

Posted by jreiner on 250 Points
We have a website traffic conversion problem. Visitors seem to get confused with configuring and adding a product to their cart.

I am asking for non-related parties to take this page for a test drive and provide some feedback about what you found confusing or unclear.

The section under the heading: "Select color, quantity, and imprint for an instant quote" isn't necessary.
Remove it and add a simple series of colored squares under the image on the left that, once someone mouses over them, triggers the main image to change color. In the place of the "Select color ..." slider, add image details, quantity, and your ordering details.

The "More details" blurb could be placed under a pop-up menu to free up more space. The more you can do to optimize the page for order placement and order submission, the better.

It's interesting you suggest the color squares instead of the thumbnail images. We just moved away from that. Here is the Previous layout:

We needed to add the decorator technique to the product detail page - which required some rework. This was needed to make the user experience for searching for products more streamlined as Version 1.0 required a separate product for each decoration technique.

Did the imprint color process make sense??
    Thanks

Will your typical customer understand all these options? (Note: the info button for "Select Decorator Technique" goes to an empty page). It would help to visualize how selecting the various options look - especially with a logo/location. If you change your decorator technique, the quantities in step 3 disappear (but are still in the cart). So yes, to me, this page is very confusing.

Your imprint method info page (what someone would click if they wanted to get info about the difference between screen, embroidery, etc.) goes to a page without content. Not everyone ordering a shirt will know the differences and pros/cons.

The instant quote just leaves a cost of $0 if I am below the minimum order quantity. Should have flag saying what the minimum is and that this needs to be filled in.

I find the whole quote process a bit complex. Might be good to find a way to simplify for basic quoting and then get more specific for the final quote. I ordered shirts from Branders.com for a client last year, and the quoting process seemed much easier than yours.
