Name For Handmade Cosmetic Products

Posted by catacazan on 125 Points
Hi,
I'm looking for a name for my handmade products for skin and hair care, made using natural plants-based ingredients. They are not gender/age specific but for now they are created mostly for women. It seems that all my best ideas so far are already taken and all the related words are extensively used (bio, natural, green, pure, beauty, rose, bella, etc.); it's also the case for the majority of nature-related words such as flowers, trees or colors. I need something original, one or two words name for the products; I live in a English-French area so it would be nice for the name to be easy to pronounce by non-English people or to sound "frenchy" or Latin (but it's not a must).
In time I will extend my line of products but for now It's more like a hobby. I'm creating mainly lip balms, creams, salves, lotions, hair conditioners and oil treatments. Some of the main ingredients are: beeswax, plant-based butters (cocoa, shea), oils (coconut, almond, calendula, seabuckthorn), aloe and others and a large variety of essential oils(lavender, lemon, grapefruit, eucalyptus, rosemary, tea tree,...)
Examples of names/websites I like (but are of course taken) Amaranthine, GreenSense, GreenBeauty, BioSense, FreshPickedBeauty, everyBodybeauty, Lush, RainbowDrops, Moonflower, Bioré, Amaryllis.

Thank you!

Nothing exotic here yet. But for handmade items, that may be a plus... more of a functional description than a made-up word combo.

You may have the cart before the horse.

Do you have a rough business/marketing plan in place? If not, the plan should precede the naming. Otherwise you could be stuck with a name that doesn't fit the positioning. And clearly the positioning should drive everything else.

It's not about the ingredients, or how you make it, or the name. It's about the unique and compelling BENEFIT your customers can expect when they buy your product(s). Get to know your target audience really well, and THEN articulate a positioning that will be meaningful for them, formulate a product line that delivers on the positioning promise, and flesh out the plan.

    Then it's time for naming.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
mgoodman, the basic idea is that I'm making these products and I give/test them on my friends and anything who exists must have a name. Without a name I'm stuck because even if I'm offering something as a gift it should have a label. I'm thinking maybe opening an etsy store but not at a huge business. Cosmetics are like perfumes: it is not always about the compelling benefit, but it is about what is working for you, it's personal. Generally people became more and more conscious about the negative effect of so many chemicals in our food, cosmetics, etc.. That is what I want to create, first for me and after that to share: a kind of back-to-nature, to simple things who work so well but we have forgotten because we are overwhelmed by publicity, brands, businesses and so on.

In fact, people in many similar businesses are using their names and I find this a good idea. But I don't think my name would be appropriate for this purpose.

Why not use a form of your name, such as: Zan's Cosmetics or Z Cosmetics?

Yes, I tried and still taking this into consideration but it is a little bit difficult because it is not easy to pronounce and I'm looking for something nicer, existing word/combination or invented, that's why I asked for your help. It seems that all I thought it would sound appropriate for a cream is taken and I hoped that other people can bring some fresh ideas.
