Enlarged Booksale Needs Catchy Tagline

Posted by Anonymous on 500 Points
We (Friends of the Library) began with an Autumn book sale each year about 55 years ago. Fifteen years ago we added a Spring sale for magazines, which slowly evolved into paperbacks and other books that we could not store until October.

As the number of books we get each year seems to increase geometrically, we have gotten our Board to see the need for 2 equal-sized sales, which will commence in 2006.

At each sale, we give out a bookmark with the dates of the next sale. To date, we have calle the sales - "The Big One" for October and "The Spring Sale" for the other.

Since we are changing the complexion of the Spring sale and need to print up new bookmarks, we're looking for something catchy to let the public know that the Spring sale is much larger than in previous years.

Book dealers from around the country come to the October sale and we want to entice them to come again in the Spring.

Any and all thoughts would be really appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Carrie (Production Editor)

Something like "The BEST Spring Sale, just got better!"

I've dried up, I can't think of anymore right now!

    Just remember:
Keep it short. Great slogans are less than ten words long. The shorter the slogan, the easier it is to remember.

Implicit in a great slogan is a benefit to consumers. Burger Kings "Have it your way" is a great slogan.

Be consistent. Once you have a great slogan, use it in all of your advertising. Some businesses even put their slogan on business cards, order forms, invoices, and price tags.

    Good Luck

Carrie, Don't know how many books I've bought at these kind of sales, but its a lot! Iowa City, IA has a very large sale 4 times per year and I make a trip just for that.

    If you used something like:
    No-Borders sale
    The Boundless sale
    The Double Semi-load Sale
    Book sale Mecca

As long as you're known for your sales you're in great shape> By the way, where is it?

    Hi Carrie,

Yes, where is this gargantuan book sale?! I admit, they are my weakness.

For your promo this year, you could do extra-large bookmarks that read: The Supersized Spring Book Sale

Or, perhaps: The Extra Extra Large Spring Book Sale (I tried typing it out as you'd see it on clothing, but was't sure it would translate--XXL).

Or, even: The Gargantuan Spring Book Sale.

    Hope this helps!

    How about something like:

    VOLUME I
A million books at great prices. Now that's a volume discount!

    and

    VOLUME 2
    Just like spring...only better!

Other Thoughts: Keep some family element, but distinguish them in othe ways:

The Book Buyer's Spectacular Spring Sale
The Book Buyer's Fabulous Fall Festival

Also ought to be something you could do with "bookends" or "bookend sales" and promote them togethe when it makes sense...

Spring Clean Out - Million Item Sale!

The BIG One - Now TWICE a YEAR!

    SPRING BIG ONE

    The SPPRRIINGG Sale
(Like the old Spring Sale, But BIIGGGEERR!!)

    Or simply call your sales:
    The Big One, (Chapter One)
    The Big One, (Chapter Two)

    Hi Carrie,

I really like Chough's chapter one and two idea, and am definitely in agreement with this idea of continuity between the two names. With that in mind, I suggest:

[This first one might be a bit too edgy with the connotations, but figured I'd throw it out here anyway.]

    Bibliophiliac: The Fall Fix
    Bibliophiliac: The Spring Scratch

[This one speaks more to enticing the nationwide book buyers to come back in the spring, and lets them know that they're not going to be looking at the same stuff.]

The Fall Book Harvest: A Bounty of Books
The Spring Book Harvest: A Fresh Crop Awaits.

[You could also say "our biggest crop ever" if you decide to ultimately play up the "larger" aspect.]

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Amanda

    hi Carrie

    great response from all here.

    how about these.....

    "The Big Spring Sale"

Tagline: "the father of all spring sale"

i also like Andrew's (Chough's) idea of Chapter One and Two.

you can also name your sale as .......

    "The Grand Book Sale 1"
    "The Grand Book Sale 2"

    or

    "Super Sale 1"
    "Super Sale 2"

Tagline: "the father of all book sale"

    hope this helps.

    cheers!!
