A Note from CEO Jim Holbrook: What Can You Learn from Retail Marketing?
There’s so much to learn by studying retailers these days. They are trying to become marketers (and doing a better job of it); trying to be trend watchers and trend setters; trying to be R&D labs and new product developers; trying to be media outlets; and trying to be better than they were and better than the competition.
It is great to watch Target set the standards and Safeway work hard to be really consumer-centric. I always like observing Wal*Mart (especially because they’ve saved me $2500 this year, so I hear). There’s never enough time for me to troop through all the retailers I’d like to, in all the cities I get to visit. I am going to do a better job of it, and report back some of my findings. That’s what you’ll see herein - some good stuff about retail. Enjoy! And, as always, shoot me your thoughts anytime.
Stop & Shop's “easySHOP” lets customers with store cards check out hand-held scanners from a kiosk at the front of the store. As you shop, you ring up and bag each item and pay on your way out.
