Job Description:
SCIENCE JOURNALIST
Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) is searching for a high-energy candidate to fill an immediate position as a science journalist in its Marketing Division. A Ph.D. in chemistry and science reporting experience are highly preferred. Candidate must have a strong ability to manage projects and complete work independently and on schedule.
This position will be responsible for drafting, writing, editing, and delivering high-quality science writing on the web and in print. Projects may include researching, creating, producing, and updating writing projects for public relations materials, newsletter articles, white papers, presentations, and other formats and media. Candidate ensures accuracy, consistency, proper style and format, and appropriateness for the intended audience, which includes news media, customers, and prospects.
Candidate must have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in chemistry (preferred) or related science, as well as a background in journalism, communications, English, or a related field, with 5-7 years experience as a science reporter or writer preferred. Candidate must also have a strong knowledge of scientific information resources; advanced knowledge of the Internet, Microsoft Office, and electronic mail; and excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
