Stellar Viral Videos, Pt. II Last week, we showed you some cool makeup vids as an example of how viral videos can rack in the mega-bucks. This time, we offer a sample of how a consistent, useful and compelling online video campaign can serve your brand amazingly well.
Consider "Will it Blend," a fascinating online series that blender company Blendtec's been running since 2006. The company's nice-and-geeky host, outfitted in safety glasses and a lab coat, has blended everything from broomsticks to the iPhone 3G.
"Oh, boy. iPhone smoke. Don't breathe this!"
The popularity of the series has led to cameo appearances in other commercials; recently, Olympus decided to piggy-back Will it Blend? to sell its brand of cameras.
Here you've got a simple idea that seizes on a compulsion that apparently lots of folks had as kids—sticking non-food items in a blender—and serves it up in a strangely satisfying way.
And in the process, tons of people are hearing the Blendtec message: "Nothing gets past the Blendtec Total Blender." So, what will consumers reach for the next time they're in the mood to chop, mince and puree? We suspect the odds are swirling in Blendtec's favor.
The Po!nt: Think fame! You don't need a big budget to go video-viral and make a cool name for yourself. Brainstorm a winning idea, commit to it and execute it strategically and consistently. If you relate to users and deliver in a sharp way, they'll be comin' back for more!
