Application Nation

When Apple unveiled its first iPhone in 2007, most reviews highlighted features that skewed to personal—rather than business—use. You could use the iPhone for many things, but you surrendered a measure of professional functionality in the tradeoff.

A recent re-design, however, coupled with the introduction of the App Store, has made the iPhone a much more viable option for those in the business world. With downloadable applications—many free of charge—you gain an on-the-go link to tools you use every day.

Among the companies offering work-oriented applications, Oracle has created an app that gives its licensed users "real-time, secure access to business performance information" on their iPhone. LinkedIn, meanwhile, recently upgraded its app for faster loading and scrolling, along with improved stability.

In short, the App Store isn’t all about virtual Zippo lighters or restaurant locators anymore. Check out the Business and Social Networking sections for apps that make your iPhone a realistic business-oriented option.

And take note: MarketingProfs.com has gotten in on the action. Our popular iPhone app provides direct access to a full slate of Get to the Po!nt newsletters with categories that include our "Latest" and "Hottest" topics. Developed in response to customer feedback, a new email feature makes it easy to send articles to yourself or a friend.

The Po!nt: Go app! Explore the new business communication options awaiting you on your iPhone; they might pay off!
