Everyone Loves CliffsNotes

Published on November 9, 2007

You had better things to do than read chapter four of Great Expectations for that freshman English class. And it turns out you didn’t have to. A quick look at the CliffsNotes study guide gave you a brief run-down on the content most likely to appear on a pop quiz. Sure, you didn’t get the benefit of reading a classic, but you knew what was going on.

That capsule overview is exactly what Brian Oates of Daxle.net offers to marketers who don't have time to read every publication that appears in the "new release" section. And the Web site makes it convenient: His author interviews, which run between 10 and 20 minutes, can be streamed or downloaded straight to your iPod. Recent subjects include:

  • B. Joseph Pine II, co-author of Authenticity, which examines how to stay true to yourself in business.
  • Lesley Everett, whose primer on personal branding is called Drop Dead Brilliant.
  • Lois Kelly, who writes about cultivating a dialogue with your customer in Beyond Buzz.
While you won't become an expert in each subject—obviously—you'll keep abreast of trends and ideas. And the interviews can help you identify the books for which you must make time.

Get your Marketing Inspiration on with podcasts from Daxle.net—especially if you can't make time for every bestseller.
