These days, 11% of traffic to LinkedIn comes from mobile pageviews. That figure is expected to grow as smartphone browsing becomes the easiest way for users—particularly professionals—to hit the 'net from wherever they may be.

So how do you maximize LinkedIn Mobile for your own social purposes? Here are five tips from Alex Fitzpatrick writing at  American Express's Open Forum.

Share useful links. The upper right-hand corner of LinkedIn's mobile site has a speech bubble that enables you to send updates—like the great article you just read—to your contacts. You can also target your viewers so that stuff meant for co-workers doesn't spread elsewhere.

Get smarter updates. When you click on an article shared in your network, you first get a synopsis instead of the complete article—saving precious bandwidth. You can also view the profile of the person sharing it.

Add contacts where you'll find them again. Why swipe business cards when everyone's got a phone? Pop in the name of your latest contact and add them right away! You'll get a mobile-friendly laundry list of their employment and education info long before they've finished opening their card clips.
