Businesses use YouTube to host video in the hope they'll turn up in search results, expand their audience, and generate leads, says Mike Hanbery at Webolutions.
"Simply uploading a video, however, won't achieve any marketing goals," he warns. To get the marketing results you want, you'll need to search-optimize each and every video.
Hanbery offers this quick primer on how to get your opus noticed by Google, Yahoo, and Bing:

Start with a strong script. First and foremost, you need to create a video that people want to watch and share. So any optimization effort begins with a concise, informative video—not five minutes of improvised rambling in the general direction of your point.

Excellent short tips. I like the tip about transcribing audio.
Thanks for citing me. Pleased and proud to be part of the MarketingProfs community.
Like anything else SEO, if you really want to score well, let your keyword targets influence the subject matter of your videos. In the long run, however, you'll never go wrong putting the contribution of valuable content first and foremost in your content generation plan.
informative. what about images converted to a video format (power point, etc) with keyword text overlaying these images. Are they search engine friendly?

Awesome tips. Particularly the one about adding captions to your video. I think it's a great task to outsource if you're pressed for time.
Shawn, thanks for the comment. In the case of images converted to video, the image remains an image and the webcrawler only indexes text, so there's no SEO benefit there. The superimposed text, however, can be used in your description, keywords and transcript.
Shawanda, thanks for reading. I agree, this is easily outsourced to a Virtual Assistant or similar service. If you are working from a script, however, the transcript is all but complete before you go into production.
Hi, Mike. Thanks for your ideas. Happy to share them.
And thanks Josue, Shawn, and Shawanda, for your comments.
Awesome ! Great tutorial on optimizing you tube videos.
I just have a doubt suppose I have a video and that video is getting more number of dislike than likes.
Say we are having 15 dislikes and 1 likes. Will it affect the rankings.
I can only agree with that article. For my biggest client, I set up a Youtube video channel and followed exactly the above stated rules when cutting and editing and uploading the videos nad the view counting is just incredible.
Sivagopi, thanks for the question. Quantity of interactions impacts rank much more than aggregate sentiment...today.
