Large corporations are blogging less, but that doesn't mean your small business should follow their lead.

"When done right, blogging can attract a huge pool of prospective customers," writes Danny Iny at MarketingProfs, "yet most entrepreneurs' blogs trudge along with Alexa rankings north of a million."

Iny believes you can boost your traffic to 1,000 visits a day with tips like these:

  • Ignore blogging scams. Plenty of services promise instant, profitable results without any effort on your part. But they can't deliver on that promise. "In blogging, as in life," notes Iny, "get-rich-quick schemes work only for the ones selling the schemes."
  • Create great content. Save your "Top Five" and "Top Ten" lists for lighthearted filler. Instead, concentrate on information your readers crave—insider analysis, industry news, and actionable insights. That will keep readers coming back—and convert them to customers.
  • Broaden your community. Invite smart new bloggers to write guest posts at your blog, and pitch your own guest post ideas to more established bloggers. In the win-win process, you'll introduce your blogs to hundreds, if not thousands, of new readers.
  • Encourage sharing. Once you're getting 200 visits a day, consider viral strategies like incentives to share—for instance, giving readers a free whitepaper if they post a link at Facebook or Twitter.
