According to Dan Forootan, "Google Analytics has become one of the industry’s most powerful Internet marketing tools, helping advertisers, publishers and Web site owners improve their sales conversion, campaign targeting and marketing initiatives." All you have to do is add some basic code to your Web site, and the Google Analytics service will provide important statistics like:

  • Where your visitors live.
  • How they arrive—whether from search engines, ads, blogs, or any other source.
  • Which browser they use.
  • Which pages they view.

This information then enables you to send carefully targeted, relevant messages to potential customers, and then to track email campaign results like:

  • The number of visitors generated by your campaign.
  • The number of pages they visited.
  • The average time they spent at your Web site.
  • The percentage of new visitors to your Web site.
  • The average bounce rate.

In an article at MarketingProfs, Forootan walks you through the process of getting started. It's simple, easy and—best of all—free.

The Po!nt: It's worth analyzing Google's options for your analytics. "Google Analytics makes it easier to identify trends, improve usability and increase your return on investment," writes Forootan.
