Check This Out

"Do you ever get that nervous feeling when you click to launch your email marketing campaign?" asks Janine Popick in a recent post at the VerticalResponse blog. "You do it, but then you might quickly cancel it because you need to take just one more look at your content."

We spend a lot of time discussing advice about subject lines and copywriting, ESPs and ISPs, segmentation and ROI, and a host of other email marketing issues. But central to your success is an error-free message. Fortunately, Popick offers for download the comprehensive checklist used by VerticalResponse before finalizing each of its email campaigns. Here's a sample of the items on Popick's list:

  • Verify the From Label. Make sure that the From label is correct for the email you're sending.
  • Check Your Newsletter Dates. If you copy a campaign and include a date in your content, make sure the date has changed.
  • Test All Links. Be sure all links go where you want them to: click on each and every one.
  • Preview Your Opus in Multiple Email Readers. View in email clients like Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail and AOL. Many offer free accounts.

The Po!nt: Pause. Breathe. Check It Out. Before you hit that launch button, use a quick checklist like this one to finalize each email. It will help put your mind at ease and still keep you on schedule.
