The level of global employee engagement—the share of workers who feel enthusiastic about their work—has dipped from its peak in 2022, according to recent research from Gallup.
The report was based on data from a survey conducted in 2025 among 263,810 adults from around the world.
Some 20% of respondents report being engaged by their workplace, down from 23% in 2022.
Although it is down in the short-term, employee engagement is up eight percentage points from Gallup’s first measurement in 2009 and is five percentage points higher than it was a decade ago.

The recent decline in employee engagement has been driven by a dip in enthusiasm among managers, with manager engagement dropping by nine percentage points since 2022.

Leaders report higher levels of engagement and wellbeing compared with individual contributors.
However, leaders are also substantially more likely to report experiencing stress, anger, sadness, and loneliness daily.
