How does AI-written content rank in search compared with human-written content? How is the performance of content written with the assistance of AI changing?

To find out, researchers at Semrush analyzed the search rankings of 42,000 blog posts and also surveyed 224 SEO professionals.

The analysis of the blog post rankings found that human-written content tends to outperform AI-written content and mixed content (combination of AI- and human-written) across all of the first 10 SERP positions.

The gap is biggest at the top, with the number one search position having a 80.5% probability of being written by a person.

A third of SEO professionals believe content created with the assistance of AI performs as well as human-written content and 39% believe it performs about the same.

Some 44% of SEO professionals say the performance of AI content has improved over the past year.
