I am a science graduate from St Andrews who moved into Sales and Marketing Management, but first I acquired a couple of years of Operational Research and Optimisation work. The latter along with sales forecasting and CRM was my secret weapon for the next 30 years, allowing me to be the top salesman, top marketing manager and most profitable sales director my employers had ever employed. I acquired the tools of salesmanship and then sales and marketing and applied them to good effect.
I formed iSimutron ltd two years ago to offer profit optimization services allied to sales and marketing consultancy services. You need the latter to drive the former through to success.
It is an odd market. My target is the mid-cap companies where optimization and linear programming are unknown, so I am selling an unknown to the unknowing. It would be easier to sell "Astrology Readings for Profit"! Outside the FTSE, what I do is unknown and I have few competitors. Essentially, we sell profits.
