Critique Of A Non-profit's Web Site

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
The Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury services Hispanics in a small town in the state of Connecticut.

The site provides information to other organizations and to Hispanics who might benefit from the services offered: English as a Second Language classes/Acculturation, job referrals, housing advocacy, health care referrals, etc.

Your feedback on how to improve the site is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nelson -

I have worked in non-profit and technology sectors and think that there should be an english language site and one in Spanish.

I found the site confusing as it moved into and fuera de Espanol. Ademas, the design does not necessarily speak to the professionalism of the organization which could affect direct contributions.

When I worked with United Way in Boston, we found very inexpensive methods for getting direct donations through our Web site . . . Within the first week we brought in a $5,000 donation via credit card . . .

In non-profit there is a thin line between having something sleek that looks like it cost a million and having something really pieced together . . . I think it would be good to take the following steps and decide:

    1. What do we want to do with this Web site?

    2. From a structural perspective what are the "Big Buckets" of information that we want to get out to people (this becomes your main navigation)

    3. How can we communicate with our audience . . . Collecting e-Mail addresses would help.

    4. Is there a technology group at United Way (There is) that can help to provide better images and insights into the project . . . After all, they fund your organization they surely will help you to make it succeed.

    Solo mis dos centavos . . .

Si yo te puedo ayudar con unas cosas gratis . . .por favor me llamas.

i suggest the front page give the choice of english or spanish. Here is another question? is the site designed for "bragging rights", soliciation of funds, or as a service to the newly arrived and often under educated people of latin america? If it is a service, it is too hard to find your way to information. If it is designed to solicate $$ it should be tell a better story of the good you are doing.
