Does Anyone Have Any Idea On How To Start An Industry Analysis On Sony Corporation With Emphasis On The Us Market?
Posted By: nadwoa* on 6/18/2004 1:51 PM (CST) 250 Points
I am currently using a strategic management book by Hitt. Too many directions have been given and I was wondering if if anyone had any ideas on how to make it more compact. I focused more on the US market since the company electronics segment is based there.

Check out www.sony.net

Also see:

www.techrepublic.com

www.thescreensavers.com

It would be useful to run a Google search on the topic.

I hope this helps

Jett, thanks for the links. I will run through them. I did run a search on google but nothing substantial came up. Any help with competitors analysis on sony?

If you are talking about 'Industry' and not a 'Company', then here is the answer:

Industry Analysis is typically done using Porter's Five forces, namely:

Threat from New Entrants
Supplier Power
Buyer Power
Intra firm rivalry
Threat from substitues

However, if it is an analysis of SONY USA, then Google shoudl help. Here is a quick list:
Sony's 3 main competitors are:
1) AOL Time Warner
2) Matsushita (Panasonic)
3) Philips Electronics

A reference link is:

Hope this helps.

Hi nadwoa,
You want a global industry analysis or restricted to a specific region or country? I would suggest you use the Five Forces model of Michael Porter to analyse the cometition. Given below is a link to the anlysis of the chinese electronics industry, maybe you can pick a few tips from thre.

If you want lots of general industry analysis, you can find the names of public companies in the commerical electronics industry and download their 10-Ks and other financial documents.
