Job Description: Rfp Writer, Researcher?

We are reorganizing our marketing department which at this time includes the VP/Marketing (who hired me to take his place) and me, the Marketing Director. I handle everything except the monthly 8-page newsletter and RFPs. Thing is, he's not leaving, ever (but that's another story). He doesn't work well with others, he's brilliant, but no emotional intelligence/social grace. The President wants to remove him entirely from the marketing department (or I was going to issue a restraining order) and find a way to use the knowledge/brilliance to his/our advantage. He'll continue to write the newsletter, but being a communications director wouldn't work. We need his help on RFPs (the one part of his job I never learned well), but not in coordinating them (he just makes everyone uneasy). Research is really needed, but usually he just sends out links so we can read for ourselves. I think this is where he'd be the most help given the questions to ask, info to find, on the other side of the link.

Yes, he's older, not in good health, this is all he has in his life, we have to create something. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. In the meantime, I'll continue to try and figure out my own job description!
