As an existing member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (and a teacher and examiner on its courses) you'd perhaps expect me to disagree with the previous two comments! In fact, I don't disagree with their advice to progress with your career and get real practical marketing experience, but, in addition, you CAN study for the CIM qualifications while you are working. If you are using a distance learning method as you suggest in your question, I would strongly advise you to choose one that allows you to have contact with others who are also studying (even if it's only be electronic messages) as the cross-fertilistaion of knowledge and experience from other students is really important in studying a subject such as marketing.

So my advice would be to go for the qualification while getting experience in your job - and, by the way, would your existing employer consider paying for the cost of your studies (they are, after all, going to end up with a better-qualified and more effective employee!)

    Good luck,
    Bob
