Desperate Need For Advertising Help

Posted by Anonymous on 50 Points
We are a small women's only 30 minute fitness center (not to be confused with a post back in march, but same problem). We are in business 1 year in June and we have only 42 members. We were careful in how we advertised (or thought so). We did direct mail before we opened which was the best response. After that we did local magazines and flyers that were mailed to over 20,000 homes. Nothing, or very little. We even tried giving away memberships and we only got 13 to join for 149 for the year. Our equipment is air pneumatic, we have spinning bikes and were in the process of putting tanning beds in the back but funds have run low. We also do metabolic testing. We have tried focusing on the gym then the metabolic testing and we just can't seem to up our membership to keep the place going. We did get a lot of former curves customers but it is not enough. We are thinking of opening up to men also but don't know if the risk is worth taking. Like the other post with all of our advertising no one knows we exist. We need 20 new members by June or we cannot continue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are DESPERATE!!

Often the problem with flyers is what they say. If it doesn't reach a prospect on a gut (excuse the pun)/emotional level you don't get their attention. That's something easily rectified.

Turning it around takes more time, but you should be able to come up with 20 members if you do these 4 activities:

    1) Tell all your current members that THEIR membership for next year will be 50% (or free if you're serious) if they bring in a guest who signs up
    2) Contact the local chamber of commerce and tell them you want to host the business after-hours event as quickly as possible.
    3) Call you PERSONAL tupperware/avon/homemade gourment rep and ask them to host their next event at your fitness center
    4) Go see your local hotel/motel that does NOT have a fitness room. Work out a paid ($10 per visit) deal for their guests and 50% reduced to their staff in exchange for posting this in their lobby.

These will help you meet your 20 member goal...but it is a lot of work!
