Reward Card (non-credit) Point Of Purchase Tracking

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Our company develops award programs for Fortune corporations - sales incentive, customer retention, employee recognition, etc.

We have a client who wishes to implement an award program - whereby, whenever a customer makes a purchase at any "participating store", after the purchase is paid for with a credit card - ANOTHER CARD is presented by the customer and swiped by the vendor/retailer.

By swiping this SECOND card, "reward points" are (somehow) determined and allocated for the purchase - based upon the purchase amount - which accrue to a rewards account. This rewards account is NOT tied into, related to, or redeemable at the credit card company.

Where my company comes in - is, based upon the many and various purchases that customers make in a variety of retail stores, customers build up their reward point totals, which they can redeem on our customer's award site which we create, manage and host.

We are looking for more information on the types of cards that are required, and the logistics of how these programs work.

We have "friendly" competitors who have advised us that they have explored and quoted this type of program previously, but chumminess only goes so far in business. Now its up to us to figure out how to make it work.

Thanks to all,
Wayne

    Wayne,
Take a look at www.goldpoints.com. It might give you some idea on how theirs works. In terms of breakage I still, after 7 years, have not redeemed a single point. ...lazy or forgetful?

    Wayne,
Do you remember Green Stamps? A grocery store chain around me has a "rewards" card system tied to S&H Green Points - what they have become.

    https://www.greenpoints.com.

Most of the chain grocery stores have reward point cards and they have a small keyring sized card to scan. Some of the CRM records are kept in their POS system - as you can also give a phone number and they can find you in their POS system as you check out. The stores run "specials" - like the old coupon systems - but you must be a member of their rewards program to cash in on the discounts. Giant Eagle has the Advantage card as highlighted here with the card options:

    https://www.gianteagle.com/main/geacinfo.jsp?bmUID=1123967977559

Giant Eagle also ties in information so they can use the advantage card for ID for check cashing too.

I found a website that will give you a list of suppliers for the cards if you fill in your needs:

    https://www.buyerzone.com/marketing/gift_cards/qz_questions_792.jhtml?aff=s...

I haven't checked them out, but it may help.

Hope this information is useful to you.
