Effective Grant Proposals To Companies?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
i want to create a community event to help raise money and or donations for the thousands of people who have lost homes in the south. to do this takes alot of volunteers. i want to ask compaines like grocery stores and big companies like walmart or target to donate water, or clothes and i don't know how to do this proposal in letter format becuase this is the first time i've done this. most compainies who get letters asking for donations or money just throw the letter in the trash, and i fear that will happen which is why i don't want to just ask for a finaicial donation but a resourceful one. baltimore has opened up it 's hearts to some victims and i want to be able to represent howard county by providing them with clothes and food and water so that they don't have to wear the same clothes and help them.

Take a look at the companies you want to target. Wal-mart has already donated $15million. You may have some trouble getting more locally.

There are a lot of scammers out there at this time. My guess is like yours, it'll be thrown out. Try calling to get an appt to meet the GMs of the places you want to solicit...but first meet with your business banker or chamber of commerce. You'll need their credibility.

Can I suggest that there are already some big players involved in this kind of initiative and while your personal motives are laudable, by acting independently, you may be just adding to the hubris and fragmenting the focus.

Why not approach, say, the American Red Cross and ask how you can hep them to obtain donations of money and supplies from your local stores and businesses. An approach by you to businesses that carries the imprimatur of the ARC will have instant credibility, and anything you raise can be pushed onward into the ARC's logistics chain to get it to the areas where it's most needed.

Getting the goods is only part of the story in relief efforts. You have to think through the whole logistics chain - and organisations like ARC have all that sorted already. Even Condoleeza Rice went and helped them out, filling boxes at one of the distribution centres.

Congratulations on coming up with the personal initiative to help people. But think hard before diverting donated resources away from the established players - adding your efforts to theirs would likely be a far better way to go.
