How Do I Start A Brand Plan?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
What is the difference between a Brand Plan and a Marketing Plan? Are they not the same thing?

Can someone please provide me with an explanation and a sample Brand Plan or outline?

Thank you.

    Everyone-

Thank you for your help with this question.

Adamcustom---I found that website, too. However, I was/am looking for a little more indepth explaination of the various parts of that outline.

Marketing plans and brand plans are somewhat interchangeable, right?

A marketing plan is an overall document/presentation on the rationale and mix of things you intend to use to attract and keep customers. Everyone does them a little differently. Brand development is part of the marketing mix.

Some folks prepare and present what they call brand plans, but they are really a marketing communications plan by a different name.

Brand development is really a very different thing and somewhat specialized. There are a lot of methodologies out there. In this sense, a brand plan is a very focused analysis and creative process to create an identity for your product, service or company. In my experience, they are most valuable if they are on a 2-3 year time frame, but that depends on the product life cycles common in your industry. A good brand plan is not something you need to do every year for a product. It's something you do, and then you execute against it every year as you create and implement an annual marketing plan.

Technically these processes are not interchangable, but in the real world, and in the lingo people use, they turn into a bit of a tangled.
